What is Bo Bing?
More than 300 years ago, when Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) occupied Xiamen to resist the Qing Dynasty, most of his soldiers came from Fujian and Guangdong, and they missed their families and hometowns around the Mid-Autumn Festival. In order to relieve the soldiers' anxiety, boost morale, and facilitate the expulsion of the Dutch East India Company colonizers to recapture Taiwan, Koxinga's general, Hong Xu, along with the subordinates of the Rear Command Yamen stationed at Nos. 33-44 Hong Headquarters in Xiamen, carefully studied and designed the Mid-Autumn Assembly Cake, allowing all officers and soldiers to enjoy a lively game on a cool Mid-Autumn night. Each assembly of mooncakes is named after the titles of the imperial civil service examination system at all levels, with 1 "Zhuangyuan" (Top Scholar), 2 "Duitang" (Second Place), 4 "Sanhong" (Third Place), 8 "Sijin" (Fourth Place), 16 "Erju" (Fifth Place), and 32 "Yixiu" (Sixth Place). There are 63 cakes of various sizes in total, which contains the number of seven times nine, sixty-three, a lucky number. Because eighty-one (nine times nine) is the emperor's number, and seventy-two (eight times nine) is the prince's number, and Koxinga was enfeoffed as the Prince of Yanping, the prince's number of sixty-three was used. ----- Wikipedia
One bowl and six dice are all you need to sweep the Mid-Autumn Festival. Back then, Koxinga led his soldiers to play for mooncakes, but modern people no longer play for mooncakes; they play for all kinds of prizes instead. The Zhuangyuan prize in powerful companies can be cars or various home appliances. In shopping malls, people play for gift cards, and even in schools, elementary school students play for all kinds of fruits and snacks.
The prizes are divided into 6 levels, with 63 prizes in total: 1 "Zhuangyuan", 2 "Duitang", 4 "Sanhong", 8 "Sijin", 16 "Erju", and 32 "Yixiu".
Winning prizes is not that easy either; Bo Bing has a strict set of rules:
Method: Participants take turns throwing 6 dice into a large porcelain bowl to determine the results.
There are quite a few rules for Bo Bing. Generally speaking, the most conventional gameplay is as follows:
If a die jumps out of the porcelain bowl, this roll does not count, and the next colleague takes a turn to roll the dice.
Zhuangyuan is divided into seven types, with official ranks increasing from top to bottom. The person who gets the highest level within the specified time will be elected as the Zhuangyuan of this table.
If there is no clear regulation on the rolled points when the Zhuangyuan is generated, the one with the largest sum of points is the winner. For example: For "Sihong", except for the four dice showing 4, the sum of the remaining two dice is maximum at 12 and minimum at 3.
If the Bo Bing time ends and no Zhuangyuan has been rolled, everyone takes turns rolling the dice, and the one with the highest total points is elected as the Zhuangyuan of this table.
If the specified gifts have been completely won, colleagues who roll the same level later can no longer receive the prizes.
Prizes cannot be grabbed across levels. For example: If the "Sanhong" gifts have been won, but the "Sijin" gifts have not been won, colleagues who roll "Sanhong" afterwards will receive no gift. They cannot grab "Sijin", "Erju", and other gifts.
